Raised bilirubin levels. Do I have a liver disease?

I recently received blood test results, showing that I had raised bilirubin levels (27 umol). I would consider myself to be a healthy 40yr old. I drink very moderately, average weight, exercise regularly and do not smoke . My general practitioner was not concerned by this result as all the other results were within normal ranges. However, I am very worried about the raised bilirubin, as from what I have read this is usually a symptom of underlying liver disease . Is there any reason why bilirubin might have been temporarily raised? I fasted for 14 hrs before the test and had a medium sized dark bruise on the day if the test due to an earlier injury. Could these factors explain the high levels?

Hi and welcome to Healthcare magic.Thank you for the query.
Yes,temporary bile duct obstructin, infection or some metabolic imbalance may cause elevated bilirubin but you should also rule out some liver damage or disease by doiung ultrasound and liver biopsy if necessary. this is not significant elevation but it is simethnh that should be frequently followed up.
Wish you good health. Regards
