Purple Bump On Back And Thigh. Why Did Skin Come Off?

I have seen a Doctor and a Nurse Practitioner but I still find their answers puzzling and unbelievable. Last week, I had what started out to be a purple bump on the back of my thigh. In two days it grew to be hard, black, and very soft in the middle. The Doctor who check my leg assumed an ingrown a hair. My wife drained it for me later that night to relieve the pressure and it was dark and very thick blood . Over night, the lump filled again with fluid. Still taking my antibiotics , and hoping it will get better. This morning as I was drying myself, the skin in the center of the bump came off, the thick and dark bloody fluid drained and now I have a black pit with no blood. I cleaned it with peroxide and placed neosporine on it but I m still concerned. I ve had ingrown hairs before but none with this type of characteristics. Any other possibilities or just wait another week?

Hi there,
Welcome to HCM.
I suspect that you are having an abscess formation. This is nothing but collection of pus and blood caused due to bacterial infection of skin. The treatment is drainage of pus and antibiotics for 5-7 days. I suggest you continue application of neosporin on the wound and complete the antibiotic course. It will heal within 2-3 days if properly drained. Thanks.
