Punched In Upper Middle Back, Having Short Of Breath And Pain. Taken Ibuprofen. What Could It Be?
My son was punched in the upper middle back he is short of breath and in pain - he has a high pain threshold so I am concerned. He doesn t want to go to the doctor I gave him ibuprofen and he is resting with ice on the spot. What could it be and should I do anything else? How long do I give him before I insist on seeing a doctor.

It seems that your son might have strain on back muscles giving rise to spasm of muscles.
But as he is having short breathing and pain, possibility of having fracture of rib can not be rule out.
Go for x-ray rib and find out the cause.
