Pulsating Feeling In The Head. Normal CAT Scan Report. Xanax And Zoloft Suggested. Cause?

I have become concerned about my head. For the past 2/3 years, maybe a few times per year, I get a strange sensation in my head, it lasts approx. 5-6 seconds, it s intense pressure, pulsating, radiating feeling thru out my whole head. It only happens a few times a year. I have become concerned lately and went to the MD,had a cat scan, showed nothing, my md put be on xanax and zoloft ...What could this be? I had an episode friday while I was driving and I am totally freaked out...these feelings occur and leave w/ no warning, I can be standing, sitting, doing nothing or active...usually when I have an episode and I am standing, I have to grab something to balance myself...Any help appreciated. I have no health issues, all blood work fine, not overweight , no drinking, smoking , no other meds but the 2 mentioned...work out on occasion, hardly any red meat, love my veggies...? help...

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello:

How do you do?

I would suggest that you see another doctor at a clinic.

There have been class action lawsuits with the medication Zoloft for these symptoms and the drug is known of this side effect.

I suggest going to hospital for several days if you can to try and different Anti-depressant such as Citalopram if you are experiencing depressed symptoms. It's good to weed your body off of the Zoloft. There may be a drug interaction between these two drugs.

I hope that helps. I hope you can see someone for a second opinion.

I wish you well!

Yours truly,

Michael Davis MD

Psychiatrist Dr. Ashish Mittal's  Response
Hello,
welcome to Healthcare Magic.

Your above symptoms may occur due to anxiety. Anxiety can present cause somatic symptoms like: pain, tingling and numbness. But as symptoms are episodic, it is better to rule seizure disorder in your case.

Xanax and zoloft are anti anxiety medicines. Zoloft take 3-4 weeks to show its effect, so if your treatment is started recently, then it is better to wait for few weeks to response of medicines.

Wish you all the best.

Regards,
