Ptosis Surgery Not Successful, Pain, Lump Under Eyelid, Stitches Scratching, Advised Cold Compress. Treatment Advise?

I had ptosis surgery 2 1/2 months ago. It was not successful. I have pain and a lump under my eyelid. I can feel stitches scratching my eye when I blink. I have been back to see the surgeon 3 times. He keeps telling me it will get better when the swelling goes away and to put cold compresses on it. There isn't any swelling. The lower lid is now pulled up covering the bottom of my eye and the upper lid is still drooping. I'm afraid to let him operate on my eye again. I have been reading on line that revitional ptosis is very difficult due to the scar tissue. I have lost faith in this surgeon as he will not even admit the surgery was successful. He doesn't seem to want to address it. I have been looking for a Ocuplastic surgeon in Ontario, Canada who specializes in revitional ptosis surgery but I have not been able to locate a surgeon who specializes in this type of surgery. Can you please provide me with some advise as to how I should proceed? Can you also recommend someone who can help me with this in Ontario, Canada. Thank you, Robin

Hi Robin..
Welcome to HCM and thanks for the query..
The post op outcome of ptosis surgery depends on the type and severity of ptosis and the action of the muscles...
After surgery swelling, irritation are common and you feel like there is residual ptosis.. It takes time for stabilization at least 3 months..
After stabilization only we have to think of going for another surgery if it is required..
Was the surgery done on both eyes or only one eye?
Some procedures give better results when done on both eyes even though the presentation is only in one eye..
If the sutures put are non absorbable they can be taken out after stabilization.. The surgeon will take care that they will cause any irritation in the meanwhile..
If they are absorbable you don't have to worry about them..
Wait for few more days and discuss in detail with your doctor about the outcome and need for any further procedure..
Hope I answered your query..Take care...
