Protected Sex, Condom Failure, Brown Vaginal Discharge. Taken Plan-B. Pregnancy Symptom?

About a month ago my girlfriend and I were having sex when the condom broke. This occurred on Friday and the following Sunday she took a Plan-B One Step. She takes Gildess as regular birth control , and during the week where she would normally have her period, instead she got a brown chunky discharge . Should we get a pregnancy test done? If not, what are some of the other things that could be causing this discharge instead of a period?

Hi,

First thing to get done is a pregnancy test. If it comes positive, a physical examination by a gynaecologist and an ultrasonography is recommended to verify pregnancy and it's position. The examination would reveal if it was a miscarriage.
The discharge could be of a menstrual period or implantation bleeding.
It is very unlikely to get pregnant since she was on Gildess regularly and she had a Plan-B within 72 hours.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I could assist you further.

Regards
