Hi! My wife is about to go for an abortion tomorrow but the doctor has suggested to put in 4 cytolog 200mg tablets to be put in the vagina before she goes for the abortion. She has also told there would be cramps , pain & bleeding happening. I am worried about it. would someone provide me with more information as i am very worried. She is very very thin & weak & 25 years of age. I would also like to know why was she asked to put in the tablet in the vagina where i searched & found out most of them who have been suggested the same tablet are taking them orally?

Hi cytolog tablets are prescribed to be taken orally or placed in the vagina as they facilitate relaxation of the muscles of the vagina and helps in cervical dilatation mainly.
Cytolog placed in the vagina a night prior to manual abortion procedure helps in cervical dilatation and aids in a complete abortion as it gets easy for the doctorto curretage the products of conception.the doctor has guided you properly.

General & Family Physician Dr. Gagandeep Dhillon's  Response
Thank you for getting in touch with us. As I see, your wife has been asked to take cytolog tablets through the vagina for abortion. Cytolog or Misoprostol tablets are commonly used in abortion procedures. As you have mentioned, this medicine can be taken orally or through vagina. The success rate is nearly similar and Ob-Gyn Doctors have some reasoning behind prescribing it one way or the other. Your Doctor must be having a specific reason to ask your wife to take this through vagina. We would like to assure you that it does not cause any serious complications. Along with this, you should follow up with your Doctor for family planning methods. Hope this helps
