Prescribed Amlodipine Besylate 2.5 Mg, Instead Of Usual Avapro 300 Mg For High BP. Wrong Prescription?

Hello, I just picked a prescription renewal from my Dr. And did not look at it as I was just getting my high blood pressure meds. But when I got home I looked at my prescription and I usually get Avapro 300mg, but my prescription is for Amlodipine Besylate 2.5mg. Is the same as Avapro or did my Dr give me the wrong prescription?

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
Previously you were taking irbesartan 300 mg and now your treating physician prescribed amlopidine 2.5 mg .
The avapro was a most potent anti hypertensive and amlopidine is also most potent drug as an anti hypertensive .
Your treating physician is very wise as he at a suitable time changed the drug for hyper tension according to your condition to avoid resistance to avapro.
So now take this drug with confidence.
Good luck.

Dear Friend
Avapro is Avapro (irbesartan) is in a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonist. Its starting dose is 150 mg. It can be gradually increased to 300 mg/day
Amlodipine is again a drug for blood pressure control. My experience says your dose requirement should not be less than 5 mg once a day or even more as you were receiving high dose of Avapro
