Prescribe Medicines For Pharyngitis

Hi. My daughter was diagnosed with pharyngitis yesterday. She had some infection on one of her tonsils. She was given a Z-pack. She took her second one this morning but is feeling a little worse today than yesterday. How long does it usually take a Z pack to work on this? And can she use a numbing spray? And how much ibuprofen may she take? Thanks

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns.

As per your complain it seems that your daughter has a bacterial infection in her throat leading to Pharyngitis and Tonsillitis for which she is prescribed
Z-Pak which contains active ingredient Azithromycin and is an antibiotic..
It can be used to treat bacterial infection and if infection is severe then only two doses are not enough to relieve the infection and you need to give her pain relieving medication also to relieve pain and sore throat..
You can give her Ibuprofen to relieve pain and inflammation..
Doing warm saline gargles and sucking throat lozenges can be helpful in soothing the throat..
Avoid spicy and chilled foods and sip on plenty of warm water..
Take a soft diet..
In case if the symptoms worsen even after 5 days consult your physician again..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
