I have already went to the hospital and all they did was test my urine for blood. the was no blood but there was a high protein count. they did not check for a heart beat nor did they do an ultrasound. the pain has not gone away, its only got worse. what does this mean? and what can I do

Hi,
Thanks for the query.
Better to consult gynecologist once and go for ultrasound.
Ultrasound helps in detecting intrauterine pregnancy, gestational age and possible abnormalities like ovarian cyst, ectopic pregnancy etc.
Some amount of pain abdomen is common in pregnancy due to stretching of the uterus supportive ligaments.
After undergoing ultrasound, the possible cause for your problem can be identified and treated.
Some amount of proteinuria can be seen in pregnancy.
But if the proteins are of detected levels, once check for possibility of preeclamsia.
Take protein supplements.
Take care.

OBGYN Dr. Aarti Abraham's  Response
hello
Thanks for your query.
Sometimes during a normal pregnancy, sharp shooting pain is often observed in the flank area.
THis is due to the uterine size which is increasing.
IT stretches nearby muscles, nerves, ligaments, and puts pressure on adjacent pelvic organs, resulting in sensation of pain and pressure.
Possibilities which should be watched out for are - miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, a corpus luteal cyst, an ovarian cyst otherwise, etc.
A pelvic ultrasound scan at 6 weeks is a must to know that the fetus is inside the uterus ( rule out ectopic pregnancy ) and to confirm heartbeat.
All the best.
