Pregnant Having Pinworm Infestation. Will Medication Hurt The Baby?
I am 22 weeks pregnant and I have a test confirmed pinworm infestation. My primary doesn't want to prescribe me anything because I'm pregnant but when I called my OB they told me my primary would handle it - what should I do? can this hurt the baby/ pregnancy? I'd like to take medicine if possible, if its safe for my baby.
Hi,
Thanks for query.
Pinworm infection is common in all age group.
Mebendazole and albendazole use to treat the infection.
Safety of drug use in pregnancy is not established.
Consult physician before taking drug in pregnancy.
Drug less harmful during second and third trimester.
If you have a problem consult physician because you are in second trimester.
Take care.
