Pregnant, Got UTI With Leukocytes. Was Taking Augmentin. Effect On Baby?

Hi i was 5 weeks pregnant and had uti with leukocytes 8-10 level and with moderate bacteria and i did not treat immediately two weeks after two weeks i spotted and when i had ultraaound the baby is fine and cervix was closed. I started with augmentin 650mg bid. After two i went for an u/s and found out heart beat stopped at 7 weeks. Is it possible it was because of the uti?

Hi and thanks for the query,

Augmentin is effective in treating urinary tract infections in pregnancy. Its toxicity on the fetus has not been very much reported in the literature. I think it is a relatively safe drug to be used in pregnancy.

You will just have to respect the recommended doses as prescribed by your physician and do a control test after treatment to assess the efficacy of the medication.
