Pregnant, Cramps In Lower Abdomen, Difficulty In Sitting, Have Cerclage Stitches. Problem With Stitches?

Hi, Im 26 weeks pregnant now. recently had cerclage placed in my 20 weeks. now im on progesteron shots til 36 weeks. using folic acid , ecosprin , iron and calcium tablets. I am experiencing cramps in my lower abdomen now. uneasy while sitting. they r not like period cramps. but im worried.. what could be the reasons? is thee any problem with my cerclage stitches?? Appreciate your help. - Krishna

CERVICAL ENCERCLAGE IS DONE IN CONDITIONS OF CERVICAL INCOMPETNCE THAT IS CERVICAL SHORTENING, WHICH OTHERWISE CAUSES MID TRIMESTER ABORTION OR PRETERM LABOUR.

CERVICAL ENCERCLAGE IS DONE ELECTIVELY AROUND 14 WEEKS WHICH HAS A HIGH SUCCESS RATE OF 90 %. IF CERCLAGE IS DONE AS AN EMERGENCY PROCEDURE THE SUCCESS RATE IS AROUND 60%

SO EVEN AFTER CERCLAGE THE CHANCE OF PRETERM LABOUR STILL EXTSTS.

INCREASED REST, DECREASED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, AVOIDING SEX ARE ADVISED.

THERE IS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT MILD CRAMPS. WHEN ASSOCIATED WITH UTERINE CONTRACTIONS YOU SHOULD CONSULT DOCTOR WITHOUT DELAY.

The cramps that you are having in the lower abdomen are likely to be due to premature uterine contractions. The intactness of the encirclage stitches need to be assessed after a direct physical examination.
