Pregnant. What can clotted bleeding mean? What if the cervix is closed?
Hello! I have a question... I m 6weeks pregnant. Today I had heavy bleeding with clots, large ones. I called my ObGyn and told me to go to the ER (I thought I had a miscarriage ). Blood tests came fine, and vaginal ultrasound showed that baby was still in my uterus! I couldn t believe it! Plus, the cervix was fully closed! I would like to know what could have cause this to happen? He ordered a week of bed rest and progesterone vaginal supositories (which I was taking before the bleeding). Thanks for your time!

First of all you are very lucky. There are very few patients who've retained product of conception even after bleeding.
There are many causes which can cause these type of bleeding. It includes some possibilities of hypertensive disease, threatened abortion, congenital anomaly, even it may be normal.
What you have to do? 1. Complete bed rest.
2. Nutritious diet. 3. Take drugs as told.

There are many types of abortion like-
Threatened abortion,
Incomplete & complete abortion.
In threatened abortion, fetus is still inside the uterus; but at any it can be expelled or it can be retained & can go up to term gestation.
You are facing threatened abortion.
So have proper rest & take medication properly & get an ultrasound scan done after a week.
