Hi,
USG is the best means to confirm pregnancy doubts at present. If sonography succesively twice reports that there is no heart beat , I am reaily sorry to guess, this pregnancy is not viable.
If you want, you can get a second opinion to clear your own doubts.
The only way to tackle such cases is to terminate the pregnancy. mostly growth arrest at this stage, is due to hormonal deffisiensy. Do consult your Gynac for knowing any other possibility of cause.
Don't be upset. this is not the end of the story.Take a gap of 3 months . Use the days to get good health. Get rid of the possible deficits in your health. & plan for other chance.
wish you all the best for future.
thank you.

General & Family Physician Dr. Naresh Jain's  Response
Hello Good Evening,

According to ultrasound there is a 7 weeks and 4 days fetus with no cardiac activity, so might be a chance of fetal demise.

Usually by 6 weeks in trans vaginal ultrasound fetal cardiac activity can be seen and in trans abdominal scan it has to be noted by 7 weeks, if you undergone trans abdominal scan you can wait for one more week as your doctor told for safe side.

If you are correct that you have 7 weeks 4 days pregnancy, then there is possibility for growth of the fetus stopped by 7th week due to demise, but if you are not sure of dates then you can take the scan findings into consideration and wait for one week.

In 5-10% of normally progressing pregnancies when the embryos measure between 2 and 4 mm the fetal heart rate cannot be seen, so in and by itself the absence of a fetal heart rate at that time does not mean it's a miscarriage.
So have patience and wait for one more week and get repeat of USG.

Regards,

Dr. Naresh Jain.

Hi Dear,
If you are very sure of your dates than the scan should have detected heart beat of the baby in 1st Ultrasound itself especially if done by trans vaginal route. Also, the 2nd scan would have picked up the heart beat even if not detected in the previous one. Absence of heart beat in two is not a good indication and may be due to pregnancy wastage. kindly consult your gynae as early as possible

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.
Your doctor has been right in asking you to come back after 2 weeks to check for heart beat. If heart beat is still not present by 7 week 4 days, you need to re confirm your dates and do serial beta HCG level tests. An increasing serum beta HCG levels indicates a viable pregnancy. However heart beat must also be checked again after 2 weeks further by doing another scan.

Do not get worried and hope for the best.
Hope this helps.

hi,
if there is no heart beat for more than 2 weeks, i am afraid, child might have died. so, pregnancy has to be terminated. otherwise it is would be dangerous for your life. meet gynecologist ASAP

wish you good health
