Pregnant. Diagnosed Baby Having Spina Bifida And Hydrocephalus. Termination Of Pregnancy Recommended?

My sister-in-law is pregnanat 26 weeks. She has just discovered about a few weeks ago that her baby has Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. What my question is after reading on these two conditions. Is it highly recommended that the pregnancy be terminated due to the complications? What would be the circumstances or true conditions for that to be suggested. She was told Baby will suffer and maybe born still born. I'm concerned if she is getting all the information about these two conditions.

Hello,

Yes, pregnancy should be ideally terminated with above two anomalies. Baby may be still born and vaginal delivery will be difficult if pregnancy is continued till the term. After birth, if survive, baby may suffer with infection, respiratory distress, raised intracranial pressure etc which may lead to neonatal death or other disabilities. Therefore, early termination is advisable. Kindly, consult with her doctor.
