Pregnancy Scan Showing Sub Chronic Hemorrhage, Vascular Cystic Mass In The Ovary. Suggested Naturogest And Duphastron. Are They Safe?

Hi Doctor,
I am 7 week pregnant now. During the 5th week of pregnancy, I had severe abdominal pain and doctor have advised for a TVS scanning. Its been noticed in the scan that, I was having sub chorionic haemorhage measuring 4.5 * *2.8 mm. Also there is a Vascular Cystic mass of 2.1 * 1.3 cm in right Ovary.

Once after the scanning, doctor have suggested to take Naturogest 200 mg tablets(Vaginal insertion) in night and then Dusphastron 10 mg(Morning) until next scan,ie on next Tuesday.

Is there any problem in taking both dusphastron and naturogest as both are progestrone tablets? Will it affect the foetal growth? Should I stop taking any of these tablets?

Thanks for posting your query.

Congratulations with your pregnancy.

From the information you have provided, you have a sub chorionic hemorrhage (blood clot in uterus) .

I would like to know more about the baby, whether fetal pole was seen and whether heart beat was visualized..?

If the findings related to baby were fine and the clot is coming down in size, usually the pregnancy goes on well.

You have had the scan for pain and not bleeding which is also reassuring.

Duphaston and naturogest are two forms of the hormone progesterone which supports pregnancy.

Logically it makes sense to take these medications to support pregnancy, but there is no strong evidence to justify their use. You can finish of the tablets that you have , but don't have to buy more.

The vascular cystic mass in your ovary is probably the corpus luteum , a structure that produces progesterone to support your pregnancy.

The repeat scan will tell us more about the pregnancy.

Hope this helps.
All the best, Take care.
