Prednisone For Sensorineural Hearing Loss Is Causing Neck Hurting And Head Pressure. What Is The Solution?

my right side of my ear felt like i was under water. I went to the ent. She said I was clear and had me go and take a hearing test. She came back saying I have sensorineural hearing loss, asymmetrical and put me on 60 mg of prednisone for 7 days straight. I m nervous being on this and when I took it at 8:00 this morning, by 1:00 I was feeling out of it, with my neck hurting and pressure on top of my head. Please tell me what you think and if there s anything else I can do or if I should get a second opinion. Thanks so much

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi there,

Prednisone can help you improve the symptoms of hearing loss. However, its use is associated with increased blood pressure. This might explain why your neck was hurting and you felt pressure on top of your head.

I advise to monitor your blood pressure and record the results to pass them to the doctor. If blood pressure will be found higher than 150/90, I advise to discuss with your doctor to stop using Prednisone and shift to another medication.

Hope it helped!
