Popping In Ear, Itchy, Sore Pain. Tried Oil, Cleaned With Cotton. Advise To Stop This?

HI, my left ear keeps popping and un popping it is not painful but it feels itchy and kind of a sore throbbing pain like when you stubb your toe! it has happened for about a week, i have brought that oil that doctors recommed to clean your ears out and have gently cleaned with cotton buds, i dont know what else to do or how to get rid of it without hassling my gp, any advise how to get this to stop? sometimes the pain feels just like normal ear ache but it seems to make the whole left side of my face ache when this sort of pain happens.

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding ear ache, popping. You have already put oil in your ear and after that though you have cleaned your ear but you have lot of itching.

Your symptoms are in favor of Otitis externa. This otitis externa means nfection of external ear canal and this is a broad term and it includes-

(a) Fungal infection of external ear canal.

(b) furunculosis of ear canal.

(c) Allergic inflammation.

The correct diagnosis is made by clinical examination which is possible only at the clinic of ENT specialist. Till you are not not able to consult specialist you may take-

(1) Tab Paracetamol to relieve the pain.

(2) Clean your ear with cotton swab.

(3) put an ear drop containing - Antibiotic + Antifungal + Steroid.
