Poison Ivy, Red Bumps And Whiteheads. Used Steroid Cream. Is It An Allergic Reaction?

My 3 year old son had what we thought was poison ivy last week. He had red bumps with white heads all over him. They have him a steroid cream and it disappeared within a few days. Now he is having the same spots but just around his diaper. He has used the same diapers since birth so I don't think it's an allergic reaction. I do not know.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Dear user,

The fresh occurrence of a rash similar to the allergic rash he had earlier in a totally new area is not likely to be a resurgence of poison ivy unless he played among them without diapers/shorts. I suggest that you try the steroid cream over it if it looks similar to the earlier one, regardless of what you might be thinking of the cause of the new rash. However, it might be prudent to show him to a doctor to rule out a bacterial, or more likely, a fungal infection of the diaper area.
