Period Missed. Had Unprotected Sex, Took Postinor 2. Having Abdominal Pelvic Cramps. Pregnancy Test Negative. Reason?

Hello!. I am 21 yrs old. My last menstrual period was August 5, 2013. Usually a 32-35 days cycle, although in the past i have missed 3 months or just a month occasionally. I had sexual intercourse for the first time on August 17, 2013. I had protected sex (condom) with the exception of August 23 and 27, in which by boyfriend pulled out before ejaculating. I am aware that pre-ejaculate can get me pregnant but i did not take the postinor 2. I didnt get my period in the first week of september. I took 2 test days apart but negative results. I again had unprotected sex on the 15th of september and he did not ejaculate inside me. I however took Postinor 2 about 40 hrs later and the second one 12 hrs later. I had unprotected sex again september 19 and took postinor 2 again, 12 hrs later and the second dose 13 hrs later. I have been having abdominopelvic cramps similar to period cramps(sticking in character) but milder since september 20, and white discharge. No breast tenderness, or urinary frequency, no changes in appetite, no other symptoms, just cramps but no blood. I took a pregnancy test on the morning of september 20, but negative. I know i have been careless, i plan to go on contraceptives if and when i see my period. I have been worried also, i dont know if that could be a factor. What do you make of this situation please? Thank you in advance

Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.

You are following a risky sexual behavior pattern. Please be informed that condom sex is the best method in you are having sex with your boyfriend as this protects from sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy.

Taking emergency pills can cause disturbances in periods for next two cycles. This can mean early bleeding, delayed bleeding and mid cycle bleeding in different women. It happens because emergency pill contains high dose of hormones which creates imbalance in your body. What you are experiencing now might be because your hormones are adjusting to the normal levels. Do not get worried and as it will take a while for your periods to return to normal. At the same time the possibility of a pregnancy can be excluded only after tests are negative at least 15 days after unprotected sex.

Emergency pills should be taken only in emergency like condom break or unanticipated unprotected sex. Taking it regularly can have side effects like cysts in ovary. You might be having your problems due to the pills.

Please consult a gynecologist for safer contraceptive options.

Hope this helps
