Pelvic Pain, U/s:uterus Retroverted, Heterogeneous In Echotexture, Trace Amount Of Fluid In Right Adnexa, Interpretation

Can you explain this report: I having palvic paint, and had ultrasound, the report says: The uterus is retroverted and heterogeneous in its echotexture. Obvious discrete fibroid is not appreciated within the limits of the study. The right overy measures 1.4x1.4x 1.1cm. The left ovary measures 2.9 x 1.9x 0.75cm. The endometrial stripe measures 2.2 mm. There is no significant free fluid in the Cul-de-sac, although there is a trace amount of fluid in ther right adnexa... This is Okay? can you explain this in plain English? Thank you! worried patient.

Hi,

Welcome to HCM.

Retroverted uterus means the uterus ( womb)is tilted back wars instead of forward. Normally uterus is tilted forwards. Retroverted or backward tilted uterus can be due to fibroids or weak ligaments ( string like structures that hold uterus in place)supporting uterus. Heterogenous echo texture means that your uterus is irregular which could be due to fibroids or may be due to endometriosis( not a common cause).
Fibroid is benign tumor of uterus where the smooth muscle cells of uterus increases in number. Obvious discrete fibroid is notappreciated suggests that there maybe multiple small fibroids or diffuse sub mucosal fibroids or interstitial fibroids(with in the muscles of uterus) .
Size of both the ovaries are with in normal range but the left ovary is larger which could either be due to age related atrophy of right ovary or presence active follicles in left ovary.
Endometrium is the layer that lines the uterus inside. A thickness of 2.2 mm is low which could be age related or if the scan was done at the start of your periods. Trace amount of fluid in right adnexa is normal. But no comment has been made about fallopian tubes

You have not mentioned your age so i can not give you the exact diagnosis but the pain you have been experiencing might be due to stretching of ligaments due to retroversion of uterus or could be due to fibroids in uterus. Along with that the possibility of a Pelvic Inflammatory disease has also to be ruled out.

You have not mentioned anything about your menstrual cycle( whether your periods were regular or irregular, amount of bleeding heavy of less, any clots).

In case if the pain is severe enough using Mefenamic Acid preparations should help you.

See a Gynaecologist and take her advice on further treatment.

Hope you understood what i have explained.

Wish you a speedy recovery.
