Painless Bluish Bruises On The Thigh After A Long Travel By Flight. Could It Be A Clot?

I was on an airplane for 5 hours today, and tonight have noticed in my inner thigh a bruise that is a collection of small round dark purple/reddish bruises with white centers. The bruises are flat and not painful. The whole thing is about 2 inches in diameter. It looks like a bruise from being pinched, but I wasn t. Is is probably nothing, I just wanted to make sure it isn t a blood clot or anything from sitting for so long.

Hi,
Thanks for using the HCM. I am happy to address your questions, there can be a variety of causes, anything that causes blood thinning, medications, low iron, low K, and bleeding disorders can all cause this. There are bleeding disorders that are genetic and might not be severe enough to be very noticable. There could be a clotting problem or platelets. It could also be due to inadequate vitamin supplements. Will recommend you visit your clinician and he may advise you to do some lab tests to rule out any causative factors. Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help. Thanks

General & Family Physician Dr. Shanthi E's  Response
Hi,

It may be just a stasis of blood due to the airplane journey. Do some physical activity in the form of running and jogging for some time.

Apply warm compresses on the affected area.

It should be gone in a few days.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
