Hello Natasha,
You have to specify few things. Do you have redness in your eyes? or Do have itching in your eyes? It it really a pain or it is irritation and watering of eyes?
If you have itching, swelling in the morning, sticky discharge from eye in the morning which doesn't let you open your eyes, then you are suffering from allergic conjunctivitis. Treatment is: milder steroids like: Lotepred or FML(fluoromethalone) eye drops 4 times a day for a week then taper down as 3/2/1 each week. + olopatadine or cromal forte eye drops 2 times a day for a month. If itching is severe you can have Tablet ceterizine once at night.
If you have pain and redness and not itching or watering I am afraid you might suffering from episcleritis or scleritis, which will need higher steroid and investigation to rule out systemic diseases.
