Pain In Urinary Tract. Prescribed Urine Culture, Ultrasound Scan, MCU Test. MCU Test Mandatory?

My child 6 years old was suffering from pain in the urinary track. I took him to the doctor and he has suggested for tests such as Urine culture , Ultrasound scan and MCU tests. I heard from people around that the MCU test is very painful. The problem is my son is a bit hyperactive and will not cooperate. Is the MCU test mandatory. Please advise.

In this age group UTI is investigated by culture of urine ,Ultrasonography,and micturating cysto-urethrography (MCU) are useful in evaluation of vesico-ureteric reflux (VUR) and lower urinary tract abnormalities.All precautions are taken to avoid discomfort to child.
VUR is diagnosed by this as pressure in bladder is more and reflux in ureter can be visualised,so do not worry and go for tests as if refulux is there it can cause recurrent UTI and can damage kidney.
All these investigation help in treatment of child.
