Pain In Thumb, Numb, Pain Occurs When I Extends My Arm. Treatment?

I have been experiencing pain in my left thumb above the joint when I extend my arm to reach for something and now the area just below my nail is numb to the touch. The pain feels a bit like the pain you get when you hit your funny bone, but a lot more painful. It does not bother me when I use the thumb in doing things when it is close to my body. The pain is there when I extend my arm.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, it appears to be the carpal tunnel syndrome, where the nerves and tendons are pressed and may cause pain in extensor movements of the hand.
So i advise you to consult an orthopedic surgeon for diagnosis and treatment.
I to my patient with such symptoms prescribe for temporary relief neurotropic injections for 10 consecutive days, and then one injection every week. Thank you.
