Pain In The Throat, Cough, Headache. No Fever. Any Suggestions?

My throat has been hurting, and it s gradually been getting worse over the past few days. It doesn t hurt to eat or anything, but there s an almost constant throbbing pain now. I have a bad cough that s developed over the past day or so. I m a little more tired than usual, but I m not laid out or anything. I also have a really bad headache on the right side of my forehead . No fever.

Hello and welcome to HCM,

I have understood your fear about the sore throat, cough and headache.

In all probability you may have had an episode of upper respiratory tract infection (even if you do not have fever) and a silent reflux problem though you may not have any symptoms.

In these cases I would usually advice my patients to take amoxycillin-clav 625 mg twice daily after food for five days, tablet Pantoprazole 40 mg twice daily before food for two weeks along with an antacid syrup thrice daily after food for two weeks. Your doctor will know about these. Also avoid oily, spicy and high flavored food and do not strain when you speak.

Also do steam inhalation two to three times in a day and take only warm fluid.

Try the above for at least two weeks and see if the symptoms recur or reduce. If they persist or increase then get an upper GI endoscopy and get back to me with the report.

Take care and do not worry
