Pain In Shoulder Blades, Jaw Pain, And Nausea Relieved By Zantack. Is It Indigestion Or Angina?

I have a form of indegestion perodicaly that is painful with pain in upper back across the shoulder blades and most times have jaw pain and/or tooth root pain. The pain and nausia condition lasts about 24 hours and leavs just as fast as it comes on. The pain feels almost the same as angina which I have had with a heart condition. The pain confuses me as to which it is, indegestion or angina. I take a Zantack and it mostly goes away. So what is it. I had the mumps at age 29 severly with all glands swelling and hospitilization, so I figure that the mumps could have something to do with it. Any answers or suggestions. LBD

Hello dear,

Relief of symptoms with intake of Zantac (ranitidine) indicates that the symptoms as mentioned in your post can be attributed to Heartburn.

Symptomatic relief can also be obtained by intake of antacids like Pantoprazole (to be taken half an hour before food) & anti spasmodics like Dicyclomine preparation (to be taken after food).

If symptoms still persist, it will be better to consult a Gastroenterologist & get a proper clinical examination.
Investigations like Endoscopy of upper gastrointestinal tract & Ultrasound scan of abdomen will be helpful in detecting any pathological cause for the symptoms.
As you have a history of heart condition, fresh estimation of blood pressure level & Electrocardiogram will also be needed to rule out any pathology in Cardiovascular system.

There is no need to worry, you will be fine.
Take care.
