Pain In Rectum After Putting Tube In Butt. Any Chances Of Air Embolism ?

Lemme explain exactly what happened here. So recently it was my birthday, we were having a farting contest, I decided to put a tube of a nebulizer in my butt to put air in there. Turned it on then off within about two seconds at most. I had pain in my rectum right when I turned it on that went away quite shortly, no bleeding that I know of our anything. My question is, is there a chance I could of gotten an air embolism? Sounds a bit far fetched but I'm a little bit of a hypochondriac. so please email me back soon with any questions or answer on this topic. Thanks

Hi there,

Thanks for your query.

Firstly, the inner lining of the anus/rectum is very very delicate. The tube might have caused bruises, which will take some time to heal. Since, you did not have any bleeding, the bruises are apparently minor (something like a razor-cut on the skin).

If you had indeed used a medicated nebulizer, the medication had apparently irritated the inner lining due to its corroding nature.

In either case, nothing needs to be done. Avoid constipation; take plenty of water; avoid straining. It will take its own sweet time to heal.

Consult your doctor if the pain persists for more than 3-4 days; or, if bleeding occurs.

If you find my response helpful and informative, do not forget an “excellent” (5-star rating) to my answer, to ENCOURAGE all doctors- engaged in social service- to render sound advice to the FREE queries.
