Pain In Left Side After Restarting Bystolic. Adviced To Stop The Drug Due To BP Being Normal. Correct Way To Stop Medication?

I took bystolic for 3weeks then switch to atenolol 10mg because my insurance won't cover it then my doctor said to go back to bystolic cause its a better drug. So I took 5mg of bystolic again for 2 weeks and been having side pain on my left side. So told my doctor about it and he said to take 2.5mg for 3 days and then 1/4 for 4 days then stop since my BP is now normal and I don't like the side effects. .Is this the correct way to stop this medicine? Or is this too Duden just a week?

Hi,
Welcome to HCM,

Coming to your query regarding stopping the medicine, what you are told is justified way to stop this medicine as 1 week is enough time for your body to get adapted to the decreasing doses of the drug. So, don't worry about it :) .

Another point about which I am concerned is as following. I am guessing your age to be around 45 yrs, and with your history of having high blood pressure for which you were prescribed Bistolic and then atenolol, unfortunately It is too fast to decide that your BP is normalized within such short time and you no longer require any medicines for the same. So, what I suggest is, 3 days after stopping the drug, please check the blood pressure at least for 3 (THREE) times from the same doctor at same time of day divided by one week duration and if your BP is found to be normal for at least 2 (TWO) times then you can be labeled as of NOT HAVING HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE :) and no longer require any medicines for the same except some life style changes.

Hope this will guide you. Take care.

Hi, you have started with Bystolic for hypertension, and switched to atenolol 10mg, and gone back to bystolic 5mg, and had side pain, o.k any how you have started to taper it, after tapering completed after 15 days again get the B.P.checked and if it is there you can use atenolol, or some other alternative.
Thank you.
