Pain In Foot After Running, Couldn't Walk, Hurts To Bend Toes, Top Of Foot Swollen. What To Do ?

After lightly running yesterday, I began to experience slight pain in my foot . I woke up this morning and could not walk without extreme pain. It hurts to bend any of my toes, the top of my foot is swollen and it hurts to put pressure on it. I am putting ice on the bump, elevating it, and staying off it. Is there anything else I should do and if it doesn t get better by the end of the day should I go to urgent care?

Hello and welcome to HCM

The symptoms that you have mentioned- swollen foot, extreme pain, inability to walk or bent the toes point to a fracture.
Sometimes a kind of fractures known as hair line fracture occur suddenly without a significant trauma.
The next step to be done is to get a X-ray in AP and lateral view.
The X-ray will pick up the fractue.

Another possibility is of a sprain in which tehre is tear in the ligaments.

In either cases X-ray foot is needed.
Both will require a cast, a little longer in case of fracture.

Thanks and take care
