Pain In Back, Buttocks And Leg, Gets Worse While Walking. Taken Painkillers. What Cure To Be Taken?
Hi I have been experiencing lower right back pain which radiates down my buttocks and right leg for nearly a month. It started to get better however it has now remained the same for 2 weeks and becomes worse when I lay, sit, stand or walk around for too long. I have been to my GP who have prescriped various painkillers however these do not help, can you please advise what my next steps should be? Thank you
Hi,
Thanks for writing in.
It seems you are suffering from sciatica and no pain killers would help in that. This occurs due to the compression of the sciatic nerve and I would suggest the following to help relieve the pain:
a. Avoid bending forwards and picking up heavy weights
b. visit an orthopaedician and talk to him about drugs like gabapentin. This should bring considerable relief.
c. The following stretching exercises will help relieve the pain:

d. Use a hard mattress and avoid using a pillow.
This will greatly help relieve the pain.
Hope this helps
