Pain And Swelling On The Index Finger Knuckle. Using Computer For A Long Time. Is There A Hand Brace To Fix This?
I have swelling and pain on the ouside part and very very base of my index finger knuckle. If it were my big toe , I would say it were a bunion . I am pretty sure it is from my job clicking the mouse of my computer. Is there a hand brace or anything I can do alleviate and fix this problem. I hate to have it jeoperdize my job. It is a huge part of my job to use that index finger.

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
If there is no history of injury to the area and there is localized pain and swelling then most likely it is related to a local joint inflammation.
In addition to taking ibuprofen thrice daily after meals, you can do a hot fomentation and apply a local analgesic on the area for relief. Avoid moving the finger much until the inflammation subsides. This should be alright in 7-10 days if it is a minor inflammation.
In case the symptoms are persistent then consulting an orthopedician for braces, prescription medicines will be helpful.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
