On Warfarin For Irregular Heartbeat. Bleeding Under The Skin Leaving Black And Blue Marks. Any Suggestions?

My mother is 82 years old. She has an irregular heartbeat that continues to get worse. The doctor suggested warfarin, however, my mother gets a lot of bleeding under the skin which presents with black and blue marks. I understand that blood thinners is what is usually recommended. Are there other treatments out there? How serious is this?
