On Medicines For Hypothyroidism. Trying To Concieve. Advised Follicular Study. When Should We Have Intercourse?

Dear doctor, I am marriedfor 1.5 yrs, and have never tried to concieve. I am under medication for Hypothyroid , and had 2 periods with a gap of 14 days in the same month. Hence,when I visited a doctor, she prescribed me Pause pills for 3 days. After which, I have been advised to take a follicular study on the 12th day of my cycle. Doctor suggested that my husband does not travel during the days of the follicular study, since we might be required to be in contact. My question is, Should we have an intercourse before going for the 1st study? Or should we do it after the study. why was My husband s presence important. Also, since we have planned to have a baby only recently, I have not taken any blood work or screening tests for vaccines, neither have I taken follic acid. Hence If we do have an intercource, is it suggested that we have unprotected intercourse? whats the science behind the follicular study, can you clarify.

I had gone through your query and understand your concern.

First i explain you what is follicle and then follicular study. so that you can understand this easily.

Follicles are basic units of ovary. ie.. each ovary contains millions of follicles.
One of the follicle enlarge in each ovarian cycle (either in Right or Left ovary). This follicle contains the egg. The One enlarged follicle rupture and the egg is released into fallopian tube.
The phenomenon of this egg release is called ovulation.

Follicular study is nothing but Monitoring the size and number of follicle by ultrasound.
In follicular study, we used to monitor the which follicle is enlarging (either in right or Left ovary) and predict when to rupture and release the egg.

We advise to have unprotected intercourse at the time of egg release. So that Ovum and sperm unite for fertilization.Thats why your doctor advised your husband to not travel on the follicular study days.
I used to do follicular study from 10th day of menstruation to 15th of menstruation.

You can do Screening tests now whatever you want.
It is better to check the Thyroid profile for the level of thyroid hormones.
