On Birth Control Pills. On Minocycline. Had Melasma In Past, Now Mask Like Cover On Face. Stopped Medications. Treatment?
Hi. I have been taking birth control pills for the past 4 years and have recently been also taking Minocycline. I have had a little melasma in the past (i believe due to the birth control) but now it is full force and all mask-like over my face. I stopped both medications and went to my gynocologist, and she prescribed me Qlaira, but I'm afraid to take it because I don't want the melasma to spread and get even worse! HELP
Hello.Melasma is a skin pigmentation pathology related to taking birth control pills (also with sun exposure, pregnancy...) You should go to a dermatologist for exploration and treatment against skin pigmentation. If your dermatologist says you have to stop taking birth control pills , your gynecologist can recommend another birth control method(condoms, diaphragm, intrauterine device ....). I wish you good health. (In case the answer would have been useful please indicate this)
