On Azor10/40 For BP. Prescribed Amolodipine Besylate 10 Mg And Benicar 40 Mg. Is There Any Difference?

Hi. I am getting ready to go on vacation. I take Azor10/40 for blood pressure. I went to dr. to refill prescription Monday. There was a mix up and my prescription was not called in on Tues. I thought I fixed things today, however, when I went to pick up my prescription, the doctor wrote 2 separate prescriptions 1) amolodipine besylate, 10 mg, and 2) benicar 40 mg. Is this the same meds as the Azor 10/40? The benicar 40 is unfamiliar to me.

Hi,

Thanks for writing to Health care Magic

Azor 10/40 is combination of Amlodipine besylate 10 mg and olmesartan medoxomil 40 mg.

Benicar 40 mg is olmesartan medoxomil 40 mg

Your doctor as prescribed you the same drug i.e. Amlodipine besylate 10 mg and olmesartan medoxomil 40 mg but in the form of 2 different tablets.

Hope that helps. Enjoy your vacations

Take care

General & Family Physician Dr. Varnika J.P.'s  Response
hi,
thank you for your query.

Azor 10/40 consists of 10mg of amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker, and 40 mg of olmesartan medoxomil (trade name: Benicar), an angiotensin-2 receptor antagonist (ARB or A2A).
the combination must not have been available hence your doctor prescribed you amlodipine besylate and benicar(olmesartan medoxomil) separately.

taken together their action will be same as azor.
hence you need not worry.

thank you,
wishing you good health
