Numbness In Foot, Lower Part Of Leg. MRI Done. What Are The Findings And Required Treatment?

I recently had an MRI Scan and the results came back as follows desiccated disc and moderate sized right paracentral caudally extruded disc component present at L5 S1 level with the disc material abutting and resulting in some impingement on the adjacent descending right S1 nerve root at lateral recess level.I have experienced numbness in my right foot and lower part of my leg, also experiencing foot fall.I tried several different medications over the last eight weeks for both lumbar and sciatic pain also my doctor has told me my only option is surgery. Can u please tell me from these findings your opinion. Thanks Joanne. 34 from Ireland.
