Noticed Red Itchy Pimples On Elbows,arms And Thighs

Hi doc, i have sort of pimples in ma elbows, arms, thighs. Its tiny like mustard in size sort of red itchy and achy and after 3 r 4 days turns black and skin in that particular area peels off and its gone. Again another one pops up and the same cycle runs. I met many docs they say its vitamin A & D deficiency gave many medicines ointment sun lotion but nothing worked out. I wear full sleeves and full pants only inorder to cover myself coz i feel embarrassed when anybody quests about this. Kindly help me doc.

Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
From the description provided, it seems you could be having either keratosis pilaris or phrynoderma(associated with nutrtional deficiencies). In simpler terms, you have plugged hair follicles. To treat the same, exfoliate the involved areas regularly, apply moisturiser preferably containing urea, glycolic acid twice in a day. Intake of oral vitamin A and E is also advised if its phrynoderma. Please meet a qualified dermamatolgist. Other conditions that should be ruled out are follcular lichen planus, pityriasis rubra pilaris, lichen spinulosus etc
