Nose Bleeds, Clots. Serious Problem?

Hello! I have a problem with my nose bleeding. My nose bleeds frequently, almost everyday from the same nostril . When it bleeds, the bleeding is usually heavy and blood clots come out as well. Is this a minor problem or is it serious? I had this problem starting only last year (don t remember exactly when) but I m positive before that I didn t have this problem. I drink around 3 litres of water a day so I don t think it could be caused from dehydration ...

Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
What is your present blood pressure?
Nasal bleed may be due to rupture of blood vessels precipitated by increased blood pressure.
There may be presence of abnormal blood vessels getting repeated rupture.
As such there is no correlation between drinking water and dehydration.
You should consult with internal medicine specialist and ENT surgeon simultaneously and should go for thorough check up.
You should also go for nasal endoscopy to rule out abnormal blood vessels.
You should also go for nasal packing for control of blood pressure.
You should also take hemostatic medicines for a short span of time.
Take care,
Dr. Mayank Bhargava
