Nodules In Lungs, Pneumonia, Rashes, Redness, Have Scars. Underwent Gallbladder Laparoscopy. Is It Cancerous?

I was found to have nodules in my lungs upper left, lower left, and middle right lobes. Pneumonia I haven't been able to get rid of for close to 3 weeks. Underwent gallbladder laproscopy as it had collapsed and was almost to cancerous stage 4 weeks ago. Smoker 30 years. One is 5mm, one is 15mm and not sure of the other. My blood tests have been abnormal since before surgery. Rash on forearms and shins that comes and goes. They start out red, turn to what looks like an age spot, then flake, and leave a scar. Wheezing, shortness of breath, chest pain, o2 level anywhere from 80 to 91, blood gasses were 90. Am being sent to pulmonologist in 2 weeks as radiologist said to wait 3 months and see if they grow and my husband wanted a second opionion as well as my dr. i'm wondering the likelihood they are cancerous. I'm having extreme anxiety over this and need some help.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi ! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef, a general surgeon answering your query.

From your history of smoking and surgery for suspected gall bladder malignancy 4 weeks ago, the first thing one has to exclude is either a primary or a metastatic malignant lesion in your lungs. This might have come to light by the way of investigation for pneumonia and presumably were not present at the time of pre-operative investigations for your gall bladder surgery. You have not mentioned about the hitopathological report of the gall bladder specimen of yours.

Whatever it is, if I were your doctor, I would have advised you for a CT/MRI scan of both the abdomen and the chest to reach nearer to the possibilities of these nodules. As your doctor advised you to see a pulmonologist, he may also consider an endoscopic biopsy of the nudules which has not subsided during the 3 weeks treatment for your pneumonia. The management will depend on this report finally.

This information is not to make you more anxious , but just to let you know what to expect in your likely investigations, so that the management can be properly planned. You can also discuss with your doctor on these points.

The rashes over your body are to be seen by a dermatologist to know the cause and treat them accordingly.

Your wheezing requires for the present nebulisation with budecort 1 mg as per requirement, and may be a bronco-dilator drug.

Thanks for choosing health care magic for your query on health. Wishing you an early recovery . Dr Shareef.
