Need To Postpone My Periods

Hi Sir,

My marriage is on 26th Jan. Usually my periods fall due on 24-26th of evry month. I have PCOD. My doc has advised to take Meprate 10 to postpone the period. If i want to postpone it for 5-6 days, how long should I take the tablet? Is it advisable to postpone the period for 15-20 days?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Normally women with PCOS have irregular cycles.

It is much better to postpone the periods, rather than prepone them. Progesterone preparations like meprate are often given.
If your doctor has advised it, then the contraindications would be ruled out by her.

Meprate can be started 5 days before your expected period, and then continued for as long as you wish to avoid bleeding. Once you stop the drug, you will experience a withdrawal bleeding within 5 to 7 days. So accordingly, you can plan the dates for taking Meprate.

If you are above 60 kg in weight, take 10 mg twice a day at least.
If you weigh over 80 kg, 10 mg 3 times a day might be needed.

DO not skip any dose, as it would result in bleeding.

Yes, it can be safely taken for 15 to 20 days. Please be prepared for a heavier than normal period when you stop.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Aarti Abraham
