Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had sex (with condom) with a sex worker and post 7 dyas, I had a PCR RNA test which returned a Not detectable result. The doctor I met mentioned that this test can be considered to be conclusive. Can you please advice me on the accuracy of this test result. I also intend to take a Duo test post 28 days, but wanted some re-assuarnce to calm my nerves.
Hello, Your doctor is right. PCR RNA test done 7 days after unprotected sex has reliability of 99%. The chances of an heterosexual sex with a known HIV positive female is just 1 in 1000. Since you were using condom and PCR RNA test is negative, the chances of contracting HIV is as good as nil, however for peace of your mind, get the duo test done after 4 weeks. Thanks
