Need Endocrinologist For Bio-identical Hormone Treatment Of Thyroid Cysts
I recently had an ultrasound of the thyroid gland which found that I have an enlarged thyroid with multiple colloid cysts. I am currently taking bio-identical therapy which includes a small dose of Armour Thyroid. How do I go about finding an endocrynologist who can follow up on this diagnosis who understands bio-identical hormone treatment?
Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM! I have gone carefully through your query.
You prescribed the structural side of the thyroid that has multiple colloid cysts, but i would like to know the functional part, did you check the hormones (TSH If it has been checked and an under active thyroid is confirmed, i wouldn't suggest to start treatment with Armor rather than with levothyroxine.
In comparison to levothyroxine, Armor contains not only T4 but also a considerable amount of T3, which may cause signs and symptoms of hyperthyroidism. For this reason it is not recommended routinely.
Regarding to colloid cysts, these needs to be seen by a specialized endocrinologist.
Hope the information will help. Kind regards, Dr.Mirjeta
