just underwent a pet/ct scan this am. They injected me with a type of sugar. Should I drink lots of water or do I even need to be concerned? I just finished my 5th chemo treatment 4/2/12 and dr. do it to moniter the progress of the chemo on my breast cancer.
Hi, PET-CT is a type of scan in which two type of injections are given. One is a intravenous contrast material which will be given during routine CT scans and another is a radioactive material which is attached with a sugar molecule (usually 18F-FDG ). The amount of 18F-FDG given is very small. It is not going to harm you in any way. Drinking lots of water (1.5 - 2 Liter ) helps you to excrete all the intravenous contrast in a short span of time. So it is routinely recommended to have lots of water after CT scan.

My sister phoned me yesterday, said she had breast cancer in one breast, she did not remember what kind it was but said it was not receptive to the usual hormone treatments and she was having a lumpectomy then six sessions of chemo. I had breast cancer 11 years ago, invasive lobular and had both my breast off, no chemo, but radiation. My advice to her, at 75, to ask for both off, then there is no worry. What kind of cancer do you think she has, basal. metaplastic or what kind if it does not resond to hormone treatment. thank you for listening.
Hi I have been fighting cancer off and on for nine years...A few months ago I learned that the cancer had spread to both lungs. I know it is one of the worst you can get..I am currently undergoing chemo therapy, should I ask for radiation tratment as well?
Hi. My name is Jane. I was diagnosted with breast cancer in march. In may ,after an succesful operation I started chemotherapy. I had already 3 sessions .(FEC-T ). I was trying to quit smoking but it s really really hard. Before I was diagnosted I did not smoke for 4 months takaing Champix. It was a big help for me. I asked my oncologist if I could take Champix while having chemo. She never heard about the tablets but she read on the internet about it. and her advice was not to take it because one of the side effects is nausea..and we ll not know if the nausea is from the chemo ot champix. Now,with the second part of the treatment, they said I won t have nausea anymore...I was wondering what do u think? I m desperate to stop as soon as possible..I have the tablets and I know how good they are...I can even take half of the tablet because I use to do that before everything happened.. I hope I made myself clear :) Thank you so much. My email adrdess : YYYY@YYYY
I have been uncomfortable for two days now I am having this burning feeling in my left breast close to the under arm and right below the under arm is this something I need to worry about or see a doctor for? and when I press on it it tends to hurt worse and then gose away and come back
I have a boil under my breast (where band of bra sits). I went to the doctor last week (7 days ago) & was prescribed a 14 day antibiotic. She said the boil would drain by itself & my body would absorb puss. The boil is still very painful & now along the side of my breast, moving away from the boil, it is becoming pink and tender. Like the infection/ puss is moving?? (about a 4 to 5 inch area of breast) Just wondering if this is normal or if I should go back to the doctor. (I am also doing hot packs a few times a day & I had to get a topical pain reliever). Thank you.
I am 68 yr old white female. Right side mastectomy 15 yrs ago, Now left breast has painful burning for past 5 days.--no lumps felt. Yearly mammograms detect no problems. Should this be a concern? Pain is not severe but burning is beginning to be a problem.
