my 17 yr old girlfriend is about to get her period with the next couple of days and any thought of the chinese food she had last night has made her feel nausous . she also has a terrible cold is the nausau a normal feeling given the circumstances. we always have protected sex and the last time was before her last period

If you regulalry use backup protection, then the chance of pregnancy is extremely small. Also, if there is an explanation why she feels poorly (terrible cold and bad chinese food) then I would not worry too much. If she is late for her period, then she should do a pregnancy test.
