Can The Body Produce Thyroid Hormones After Removal Of The Thyroid Gland?

My thyroid was removed about 15 months ago. My doctor just reduced the dosage I take because my TSH is low. He stated that by reducing the dosage, it will tell my body to make more thyroid. But I do not have a thyroid so how can my body manufacture it? My TSH was .17 and should be at least .5 I believe. Are we going the wrong direction with my meds? Thank you for helping me understand this.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Which purpose he removed your thyroid gland??
Usually, if it is partial thyroidectomy no need to supply thyroid hormone in hyper-functioning gland. Total thyroidectomy or need thyroid hormone supplementation for life long. Treatment depends upon your TSH status and surgery status and remaining thyroid gland functioning status.

Hope I have answered your query.
