My nine year old son has a bump on his upper right thigh. He told me he had a whitehead and it was hurting. When I looked at it he said he had scraped the top off. This was on Sat. morning. Now it looks like it is infected. It is sore to touch and it feels like I can feel swelling around it. What does it sound like
HI,
your child might have developed a sebaceous cyst or an abscess secondary to some local lesion at the site. it appears to be infected & needs to be drained as early as its possible especially because its sore there. it needs to be assessed by a surgeon and needs to be drained surgically. its a minor procedure done under local anesthesia & once its drained, ur child needs to be on oral antibiotic & preferably daily wound dressing. It should settle in a weeks time.
Hi!,Amanda Crabtree,
Welcome to HealthcareMagic forum,
It seems your son has a sebaceous cyst on thigh. It appears as a lump with a central pore like a black head.It is nothing but a collection of sebum or oil. There are no medicines for this ,and the only treatment is surgical. Results of surgery are good. One needs to give a small nick and then remove the sebum or oil ,and then remove the cyst or bag too from within.so visit a dermatologist or surgeon who can do the job good.
take care,
Dr.Chawda
