Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Gap in Knee is a term often used by bone settlers & non orthopaedic doctors - It is usually when they read X Ray report Osteoarthritis - It is mentioned reuction in joint space...They explain you as a GAP in knee...

Usually there are 4 stages...stage 1 & 2 Physiotherapy & SOS medicines NSAIDS in limitations to be prescribed... Stage 3 & 4 do not respond much to medical treatment but advers reactions of medicines will give patient severe kidney & liver problems...

In such condition surgery is helpful... Surgeries of various types according to age , weight and severity of disease are described...

Ideally need to examine patient...

Then only i can confirm diagnosis & further management can be done....

Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. S S Soni's  Response
Hi Vinita
Welcome to HealthcareMagic Forum
It seems your mother is suffering from osteoarthritis of knee joint. Consult an orthopedic surgeon who is specialist in joint replacement. If the knee is not damaged much than precaution, exercises & physiotherapy may work. But if it is severe the the knee replacement is the only option
Take care
