Should I Refrain From Having Sex With My Partner Who Has Undergone Chemotherapy?

My female partner has received the first of four A&C chemotherapy infusions (to be received every two weeks). We ve been told that I should be careful to avoid contact with body fluids (cleaning up vomitus, urine, diarrhea, blood, ...), which makes me wonder: Are the chemicals in her body so toxic that I should refrain from performing oral sex on her? If so, is it throughout the entire two-week cycle that they re toxic, or does toxicity peak and then recede before she receives the next infusion?

Hi,

Yes, you cannot have sexual contact.
There are three important issues.
1. Chemotherapy usually has side effects and drain person energy itself and all other complication of chemotherapy. Along with that having sex will make the person more tired.
2. The long term mediation and chemotherapy usually will decrease libido. so your partner won't be having a happy feeling about sex.
3. As you said, most of the chemo drugs are highly toxic, considering your safety its better you don't have sex.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. S.R.Raveendran, Sexologist
